My Fave Makeup Products + Routine
If you follow me on Instagram you probably know that I am trying to invest in only cruelty free and better for you makeup + skincare. Better for you makeup is a work in progress, and I’m still learning, but I wanted to share my everyday lightweight makeup routine.
After wearing lots of makeup in college and shortly thereafter - I remember waking up one day, getting ready and looking in the mirror thinking, “I have so much makeup on I don’t even look like myself.” Let me preface this by saying I’ve never spent more than 30 seconds filling in my eyebrows or applying eyeliner, but still, the amount I was wearing just wasn’t me.
So below you’ll find my makeup routine + my fave cruelty free products and better(ish) for you products.
Glossier - Perfecting Skin Tint
I feel like I’ve tried just about every foundation out there. I have combination skin and the seasons determine whether or not it’s dry or oily. After hearing about Glossier, and being served about a million ads for it, I decided to give it to try. This foundation is amazing! It’s lightweight, doesn’t dry out my skin and is buildable. I wear shade G10 and apply it with a wet sponge all over my face, my go-to sponge is the EcoTools Perfecting Blender.
Glossier - Stretch Concealer
This concealer has got a beautiful sparkle to it (although my setting powder mutes it), it’s very easy to apply and goes on smooth.
Like the foundation, it’s buildable if you need more coverage. I wear G12 it is the lightest shade and I apply it with my finger under my eyes and on my nose.
Laura Mercier - Translucent Pressed Setting Powder
Setting powder is an important part of my routine. After using concealer I recommend using a pressed setting powder. This helps ‘set’ in your concealer and prevents your mascara from running underneath your eye (the worst!!). This powder is a matte so it does soak up the sparkle from the concealer, but that’s what highlighter is for. I apply it with this brush under my eyes, on my nose and on my forehead.
Hoola - Matte Bronzer
I’m sure we’ve all heard about this bronzer at some point. I wasn’t quite sure if it’d be worth the type, but after seeing it on sale for $15 vs $30 at Ulta I caved.
I was initially thrown off by how small it was, but I’ve been using it for months now and the packaging is deceiving as it lasts MUCH longer than you’d expect. The bronzer blends well and doesn’t make you look orange. I use it on my neck and forehead.
Tarte - Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush
This blush is perfectly pigmented. It actually lasts the 12 hours + blends well and is buildable. I have it in the colors peaceful and in dazzled.
Peaceful is a pretty, peachy pink and dazzled is a soft rose. I apply it with a blush brush, but there’s not one I’m I love enough to share.
I really like this palette because the highlighters go on so smooth. I also like that it has a bronzer so when I run out of my Hoola I can use it in its place. I just use a little and dab it on my nose and under my eyes with this brush.
NYX - Tinted Brow Mascara
This brow mascara is great. It’s my dupe for the Glossier boy brow. It works great, blends well and is much larger than Glossier’s boy brow. I don’t get crazy with this stuff, I just use it on my brows until I think they look filled but not overdone.
Eyeko - Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
Don’t let the liquid eyeliner throw you off. This eyeliner is SO easy to apply and it is long lasting, I’m talking a full 12+ hours. Liquid eyeliner has always been hard for me but this one is very easy to apply, it doesn’t look glossy or stick to your eyelid, and like I mentioned, it’s long lasting. It’s pricy but it’s worth it. I apply it after I’ve applied whatever nude eyeshadow I’m feeling that day.
WellPeople - Mascara
Last but not least my favorite mascara, ever. I’ve tried so many mascaras and after receiving this one in a birchbox I haven’t looked back. This mascara is on the pricier side, but it’s all natural and the brush is amazing. This is the last step in my makeup routine.
